How do I get a subscription to the Guides app?
You can subscribe to the Guides app for one month, six months or one year. In the settings menu, tap 'Subscribe to Guides' and choose whether you'd like a one month subscription, a six month subscription or an annual subscription.
Subscriptions include access to all 8,000 city guides, phrasebooks and curated collections.
Monthly subscriptions with access to all cities can be purchased for $4.99, a subscription for six months is $21.99 and annual subscriptions can be purchased for $39.99.
Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of the subscription period.
To change subscriptions in Android, unsubscribe or cancel an existing subscription, open the settings menu and tap 'Manage my Subscriptions'.
To change subscriptions on an Apple device, unsubscribe or cancel an existing subscription, open the settings menu, open 'App Subscriptions' and tap 'Manage my Subscriptions'.
Why do I have to pay for the Guides app?
The Guides app currently covers over 8,000 cities and it's growing regularly.
The subscription plans help ensure that we can bring you the best and most up-to-date content. Our writers are hard at work traveling the world to update information, verify details and seek out the best places for travelers to discover. A lot of time and effort is put in by our writers and the subscriptions help us to keep our content extensive and fresh.
The Guides app has new features, including 360º videos, and as always, we’re regularly adding new content and features to the app so the Guides app will continue to grow.
My purchase didn't go through.
As with all app problems, we recommend first and foremost that you update to the latest version of the Guides app if you haven't already. Check that your device has the latest version by opening the app store for your device (iTunes or Google Play Store) and checking that there are no pending updates for the Guides app. Once you've updated, try your purchase again.
If, after updating, your purchase still fails, confirm that:
- You have an active internet connection while attempting the purchase (either via a cellular data connection or via wifi)
- In-app purchases are enabled for your device (you can check this by going to the Settings app, then looking under General --> Restrictions, and making sure that In-App Purchases are turned on)
