What is the Lonely Planet Library?
The Lonely Planet Library in the Guides app is our way of giving your access to the cities in Lonely Planet guidebooks you already own. The Lonely Planet Library is collection of guidebooks your own or have been given as a gift that have been scanned using the barcode scanner. These guidebooks are added to your Lonely Planet library and you can access the cities covered in those guidebooks without a subscription.
What does the barcode scanner do?
If you've purchased a Lonely Planet guidebook, we want to give you access to the same content in the Guides app. To get access, simply use the barcode scanner to scan the barcode on the back of your guidebook(s) and the cities covered in the guidebook will be added to your Lonely Planet Library.
Does the barcode scanner work for Lonely Planet guidebooks in other languages?
The Guides app barcode scanner only works for guidebooks published by Lonely Planet in English. Lonely Planet guidebooks in other languages are published by our international partners and can't be unlocked in the Guides app.
Does the barcode scanner work for guidebook from other publishers?
The Guides app barcode scanner only works for guidebooks published by Lonely Planet. Guidebooks from other publishers can't be unlocked in the Guides app.
Why isn't the barcode scanner recognizing my guidebook?
To use the barcode scanner, open the scanning feature in the settings menu and scan the barcode on the back of your guidebook. If it's not scanning, please be sure it's a guidebook published by Lonely Planet and that it's published in English, not one of our international partners. Guidebooks from other publishers or from our international partners can't be unlocked in the Guides app.
If you're not able to scan a Lonely Planet guidebook, please try logging our and logging back into the app and trying again.
If you're still unable to scan a guidebook, please contact us at AppSupport@lonelyplanet.com and someone from our team will be in touch.
