How do offline maps work?
Guides maps work offline so you can use them abroad or without a data connection. This is especially handy for avoiding roaming charges while you’re in other countries or using them in remote locations where the signal is weak.
In order to use the offline map of a city guide, you’ll need to download it first. Once you’ve opened a city guide, tap to open the Places tab and then tap the ‘Tap to download offline map’ button placed in the grey bar at bottom of the map. The download of the offline map will start. Wait for the download to be 100% completed – the progress bar will disappear automatically once it’s finished.
Make sure the download process is 100% complete, otherwise the offline map won’t work when you're offline. The best way to check is to exit the city guide and jump inside again to double-check the download bar is gone.

This might be an issue when traveling abroad with no data plan. There are a couple of ways to avoid this:
1. Only connect to the internet via Wifi. You can restrict the Guides app to only connect to the internet when using Wifi networks:
Navigate to the system Settings of your Android device.
Tap on the ‘Data Usage’ option.
Find the Guides app on the list, and choose the ‘Restrict background data’ option.
2. Switch your device to Airplane mode. This way neither Guides nor any other app will connect to the internet.
