What content is available in Trips?
Trips by Lonely Planet is a self-publishing content platform offering the modern traveler an enjoyable, easy way to discover and share their travel experiences.
Trips enables anyone to seamlessly upload photos and videos directly from their phone’s photo library and craft trips illustrating their adventures. The platform’s simple and modern design features the ability to “like” trips, follow others, save favorite trips to your profile and discover new trips by location or interest, such as wildlife and nature, adventure travel and road trips. In addition, our team of expert writers and editors frequently curate top recommendations to inspire people’s next trip.
How is Trips different from Guides, Lonely Planet’s other app?
Trips is a self-publishing platform where all content is created by users. Guides is all Lonely Planet’s owned & licensed content. With Trips, you can create posts about your latest adventure or holiday, adding images & video straight from your device and complementing these with your own text, descriptions, and maps. With Guides, Lonely Planet’s specialist advice and knowledge helps you navigate and explore over 8,000 cities around the world.
How is Trips different from lonelyplanet.com?
Lonely Planet’s website is full of our very own content - from articles to destination specific descriptions and survival guides, as well as bookable flights, hotels and other services. Trips however, is content created by users. Trips users will be able to create trips full of images and videos taken straight from their device, with their own descriptions and text.
Do I have to pay to use Trips?
Trips is free to download and use.
How do I get my trip featured by Lonely Planet?
Lonely Planet will regularly choose the best trips to add to our Featured section. Featured trips will:
- use visually pleasing photography
- have photos that tell a trip
- use paragraph styling for paragraphs and title styling for titles
- contain no typos
- have photos with location data
- have captions that could stand alone and are descriptive
- have smart and efficient use of copy that tells a good story
- use unique and editorially descriptive titles (not just the name of the location)
- have uploaded profile picture and populated bio
- use sentence casing
- contain no promotional content (in the bio or any of the trips)
- have titles fewer than 40 characters
Is there moderation of Trips content?
Yes - we reactively moderate content in Trips. This means that any reported trips or pieces of content that do not adhere to our User Guidelines or legal obligations will be removed. You can report inappropriate content in a trip by using clicking the “...” icon and selecting “Report trip”.
Who owns the content I post in Trips?
Lonely Planet does not own the content you post in Trips, and posting content in Trips does not change its ownership. However, by using Trips, you grant Lonely Planet rights to use and distribute the content you post. These include rights to use your content to make the app work, promote the app, promote Lonely Planet and the right to grant others the rights to use your work.
